Aerial M - Aerial M

Classic math rock / slowcore album. What’s most impressive is that they’re able to create moods just by experimenting with arrangements and interspersing different chords. Awesome stuff.

Release date: 1997-10-14

[9.2/10]

Nobukazu Takemura - Child and Magic

Magnificent Japanese experimental music. It is new-age, it is post-classical, it is muffled drum & bass, it is noisy techno, it is… very hard to say what this is. A hidden gem that deserves much more recognition.

Release date: 1997-12-15

[9.0/10]

Nueen - Circular Sequence

Minimalistic electronica. I like this a lot, whoever that likes Ulla would love this too.

Release date: 2021-09-01

[8.6/10]

Piotr Kurek - World Speaks

Chamber music / minimal modern classical. Unsettling and thoroughly awesome.

Release date: 2022-01-31

[8.5/10]

Múm - Yesterday Was Dramatic - Today Is OK

Indietronica. I’ve always imagined them to be a post-rock band that sounds extremely similar to Sigur Ros, but this is actually a lot more interesting than that. This one even got some drum & bass beats.

Release date: 2005-10-04

[8.5/10]

Cities Aviv - Man Plays The Horn

I like this just as much as I like his last year’s album, The Crashing Sound of How It Goes.

Release date: 2022-02-04

[8.4/10]

Celeste - Assassine(s)

This is probably my favorite release of theirs. I’ve always felt their stuff is a bit one dimensional, but this one incorporates more screamo elements, which I dig.

Release date: 2022-01-28

[8.4/10]

Bloodmoney Perez, Messiah Musik - Second Hand Accounts

Dope conscious rap.

Release date: 2022-01-28

[8.3/10]

Francesco Cavaliere - Xylomania

Abstract modern composition / ambient. Tingling sounds, listened through it a bunch of times before finally deciding that I am digging this quite a bit.

Release date: 2018-05-10

[8.2/10]

Cikada - Lamplighter

Sludgy doom metal. Knew about them when scrolling through IG and saw Thou’s post about Imperial Triumphant’s show in New Orleans. This slays.

Release date: 2019-10-31

[8.2/10]

yeule - Glitch Princess

Post-apocalyptic pop. Way better than Poppy, way better than GFOTY, way better than those two combined.

Release date: 2022-02-04

[8.1/10]

Debit - The Long Count

Man this is some weird stuff. Mayan music instruments? What?

Release date: 2022-02-18

[8.1/10]

Mark Lanegan - Blues Funeral

Bluesy indie rock. RIP Mark Lanegan.

Release date: 2012-02-06

[8.1/10]

Eiko Ishibashi - Drive My Car OST

Jazz / new-age. This soundtrack is better than the actual movie by a long shot.

Release date: 2021-08-18

[8.0/10]

James Rushford - Lake from the Louvers

Ambient / field recording. Haunting soudnscape.

Release date: 2021-05-14

[7.8/10]

Orphx, Kareem - As Your Skies Are Fading Away

Industrial techno. Kareem’s Zones of Significance was one of my favorite albums from 2021. This one is more techno and less ambient / experimental than that one.

Release date: 2022-02-11

[7.8/10]

Comets On Fire - Field Recordings from the Sun

Lo-fi stoner metal. I’ve always remembered them as a psych rock band that leans on the less heavier side of the spectrum, but this one is as hard hitting as it gets.

Release date: 2002-06-15

[7.7/10]

Berk Icli - Glimpses of an Eternal Bloom

Ethereal, melodic modern classical / chamber music. Lots of fun.

Release date: 2021-10-15

[7.7/10]

Simon Farintosh - Aphex Twin for Guitar

Fun little EP for Aphex Twin covers. I thought Avril 14th was a cover of Kanye’s Blame Game though, did he really sample Aphex Twin on that one?

Release date: 2021-01-29

[7.5/10]

宇多田光 - BADモード

Alright J-pop. Dig the A.G. Cook feature, dislike the Skrillex feature.

Release date: 2022-01-19

[7.5/10]

Emma Ruth Rundle - Some Heavy Ocean

I didn’t know she’s in Red Sparrowes, and I never really paid attention to Marriage, but maybe I should… I like the song Run Forever a lot, but overall these songs gets a bit tiring after a while.

Release date: 2014-05-20

[7.4/10]

Earthless - Night Parade of One Hundred Demons

I like the track Death To The Red Sun, but others have too much Japanese scale runs in them, and it sounds kind of silly…

Release date: 2022-01-28

[7.4/10]

DJ Python - Club Sentimientos Vol. 2

This is much tamer than his 2020 masterpiece, Mas Amable.

Release date: 2022-01-21

[7.3/10]

Undo K From Hot - G.A.S. Get A Star

Erractic industrial experimental rock. A bit too much for me.

Release date: 2021-05-07

[7.2/10]

問題總部 It’s Your Fault - BLUE LEAK / 水體

Not as cool nor as memorable as their last album. With all the flash gone it’s just a pretty standard nu jazz record.

Release date: 2022-02-23

[6.8/10]

Shinichi Atobe - Love of Plastic

This feels a lot weaker than the more minimalist albums from before. Never really a big fan of balearic house…

Release date: 2022-01-21

[6.7/10]

tricot - 上出来

Never a big fan of them… it’s got chops but it really isn’t that good.

Release date: 2021-12-15

[6.4/10]

Converge, Chelsea Wolfe - Bloodmoon: I

  1. I am never really that fond of Chelsea Wolfe.
  2. Sounds like Converge is going into dad rock territory…

Release date: 2021-11-19

[6.4/10]
